Forget The New One, This Is The Maserati Ghibli You Really Want

The new four-door Ghibli from Maserati is a great car–certainly the best looking in it's class, and probably the most interesting, but it can't possibly hold a candle to the original.

The latest video from Motor Trend features the original Ghibli which was released in 1967 and competed with the Ferrari Daytona and Lamborghini Miura. It was more expensive than both, had four less cylinders and still outsold both of them. Its 4.6 liter V8 was good for about 310 HP in it's day and its Guigario-penned lines still look great now.

In reality, this Ghibli is much closer in spirit to the current GranTurismo than the sedan that bears it's namesake. Neither are concerned with being the fastest cars for the money, but rather they're about being the most stylish, comfortable way to get from point A to point B.

This car isn't as beloved as the Daytona or the Miura, and I'm not going to say it deserves to be, but the Ghibli is still quite a special thing. There's something that's just so right about this car. It has just the right amount of everything.
