A Piper PA-46 Malibu crashed on a runway this morning at the AirVenture 2015 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, where thousands of people descend for the Experimental Aircraft weeklong annual convention. Five people have been hurt, according to news reports.
Reports indicate at least one person is currently listed in critical condition. The airport has been shut down while firefighters and investigators respond to the scene.
Oshkosh has seen several crashes over the last few years. Last year a custom built Breezy aircraft was destroyed on landing. Sadly, the pilot of the Breezy succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the incident. In 2011, a USAF F-16 fighter overran the runway and was destroyed, although the pilot was unharmed. In 2010, NASCAR team owner Jack Roush was injured in his personal Hawker Beechcraft Premier IA business jet when he executed a last minute go-around without advancing the throttles.
