California Attorney General Bill Lockyer is one of our favorite politicians. We didn't quite know what to think of him initially, but he continually surprises us by standing up for states' rights in the face of Federal dunderheadedness. And in the face of an FTC report that they could find no evidence of collusion among oil companies in the wake of Hurricanes Rita and Katrina, Lockyer's continuing his investigation into the price spike + record profits on the part of the oil companies.
Sure as hell there are a million facets to this story, but when we've got citizens dying in an oil-rich nation due to the edict of an oil-rich administration and oil companies are posting record profits despite damage to their facilities, well, something in Denmark's smelling more than a tad off. Kudos to Lockyer for pushing on this one.
