Even The Sketch Of The New Mid-Engine Porsche 911 RSR Race Car Is Awesome

Porsche appears to be doing the unthinkable and moving the engine in the new Porsche 911 RSR race car from the rear to the middle of the car and even the sketch alone looks unholy-wonderful.

Porsche put out the above sketch, showing a swan-neck rear wing for more aerodynamic efficiency, the bigger underbody diffuser that seems to have brought about this engine move and, well, not much else.

This still looks like a pretty normal 991-based widebody racer.

Even all of Porsche’s little video teasers of the car look pretty much as Porsches have looked for the past few years.

Only, you know, more modern and cooler.

It’s only a matter of time before we all become nostalgic for Porsche’s older rear-rear engine ways, but for now this little bit of modernity is impossibly neat. The full debut of this car will be in two days at the LA Auto Show. Me (and my drool) will be there.
