Driveclub is the first racing game for the upcoming Playstation 4, and according to its studio, the socially-oriented racer has been in development for no less than ten years.

Normally this would freak us out, because a ten-year-old game would just be full of Ferrari 430s and first-gen Gallardos. Somehow everything looks very up to date in their trailer, with a Koenigsegg Agera R, a Pagani Huayra, and a Hennessey Venom GT. The graphics also seem a step ahead of GT5.

As detailed on Kotaku, Evolution Studios is going crazy about the social aspect of the gameplay, which concentrates on driving for a team. More important than setting the fastest time is competing well as a group, supposedly like the best first-person shooters on the market. In the game’s presentation below, which feels a bit like watching an embarrassing Top Gear audition tape, the whole thing seems to be about setting challenges and responding to those set by other players around the world.

The concept seems cool, and time will tell if its social functions are better organized than what you get in that other game that just came out that’s about social driving.
