Detroit Police say a man chasing his girlfriend at speeds around 70 mph caused the woman to lose control, launch over a freeway embankment and land her car atop a pickup truck, resulting in the deaths of four people.
The crash happened early Saturday morning. It's not known why the man, who was driving with one other passenger, was chasing the woman, who was driving with three other passengers in a Chrysler 300.
Both cars were traveling at high speeds on residential streets before both launched over the embankment on I-94. The woman's car went airborne before impacting an oncoming pickup, slicing the cab from the frame.
The pickup contained three passengers, all of whom were killed instantly. One woman in the woman's 300 also was killed. The driver of the 300 is currently hospitalized in critical condition, while police have detained the male driver and are weighing charges.
