Commenter of the Day: SEMA Press Release Orgy Edition

Illustration for article titled Commenter of the Day: SEMA Press Release Orgy Edition

Murilee and I spoke with Wert on Saturday after the Pumpkin Smash. He was already in his Howard Hughes Suite room at the MGM Grand, so we asked if he was going to play some Texas Hold 'Em or get blotto off free booze or hit a strip club — you know, any Vegas-type activity. No, he told us, he was going to sit tight and post press releases. Which prompted me to remark that in a lot of ways, Ray and I are very different. Regardless, that boy can post! Which brings us to today's winning comment, right after you jump.

Herr Wert tossed one up about the '34 Chevy Coupe with the 2.0-liter, 500 HP Ecotec E85 turbo mill. To which we can only say, "Hot damn!" Commenter danms6 however, had a slightly different take:

I wouldn't be surprised if GM made this FWD.

We hate it when you all are smarter than us all. And more accurate, too. We just hate it.

Well I for one love my plastic dash, front wheel drive, soul sucking GM car with the non-pleasing interior and unacceptable body gaps. So far the most positive review I've seen of it was that it had nice seats. Good thing I don't buy stuff based on other people's reviews or I never would have driven it.

Nobody mentions the monster torque or killer brakes. The handling isn't bad considering the source. The motor is overbuilt with a real timing chain, a 7 quart oil pan and it can apparently support 500 h.p. plus. It appears parts will be plentiful and reasonably priced for the foreseeable future. I love parts bin cars for that reason alone.

But the dash is a deal killer... go figure. I got one of about 6,000 built because they couldn't give them away. I may have to get another as a spare.
