When I was a newly-minted college grad in the last mild recession (01-02), I took up residence on the floor of Home Despot for about 3 months to pay the bills. Nardelli had just recently taken over and morale was miserable. The people on the floor who had worked there for several years talked about staff reductions, hours/benefits cutbacks, and most of all—reduction in product training. And when I finally quit, it was because I cut my hand on some mini-fridge coils and there were no managers left in the store at the time (hours cutbacks). Let's just say he wasn't exactly well-liked or respected by anyone in the ranks.
