We like diesels. They're torquey. They get great gas mileage. They sound hella cool. But it also has a bad reputation in America for being dirty and stinky.

Modern diesel is much better than those outdated stereotypes and Audi knows that. They're probably the diesel's biggest advocates in the USA, and now they're putting their money where their mouth is: Audi is bringing a ton of diesels to America in 2013.

The A6, A7, A8, Q5, and Q7 will all be getting Audi's 3.0 liter TDI V6 with 240 horsepower and a stump pulling 406 pound feet of torque.

The updated Q7 TDI is now on sale as a 2013 model, and the other four will be available in early 2013 as 2014 models. Now let's just hope they sell them and make Americans accept diesel.

The US diesel "window of opportunity" was about 5 years ago, around the 2008 price spike, but thanks to EPA restrictions and the slow rollout of ULSD, I feel like we all got shafted. There are just too many good gas engines with amazing mileage available now, so the prospective market of rational diesel buyers has probably shrunk in half since then. You have to be a pretty hardcore dieselhead to justify one now.

Then again, VW/Audi has always been pretty stupid with their US product timing, so I'm not terribly surprised.
