That pic reminds me of the pic above. They are known as "chivas" which is the literal translation for "goats" in English.
These, are the best and most authentic way to travel through northern Colombia. These are not only filled with travelers, but are also filled with traveling merchants who sell trinkets, food and even art.
Some have musical groups going from town to town playing Vallenato, one of Colombia's gifts to the musical world.
All this is going on while you're enjoying some of the most beautiful mountains ranges, deserts and beaches anywhere.
The chivas go through all the little towns in Colombia such as Manati, Plato, repelon, sabanalarga among others as well as the big cities like Barranquilla, Santa Marta and Cartagena.
I've ridden on these and are extremely fun to be in, and they are a great starting point if you decide to visit Colombia in the future.
Sure you could get on a chartered bus to your location but sometimes it's all about the ride and not the destination. The chiva is exactly what that statement above is about.
