The guys at Allpar have updated their file of whispers on the next-gen "ZB" Dodge Viper, which is expected to roll out early in 2007, but skipping directly to the 2008 model year. According to an unnamed insider, the next Viper will have a "whole new front end that's sharper and more menacing" as well as the McLaren-Tuned V10 from the ASC Diamondback Viper, a rumor substantiated by AutoWeek earlier this year. A debut of sorts is reportedly planned for this fall in Vegas (where else?).

@Matt S: My guess is that nothing will change from today's situation.

In a straight line, the Viper can kill almost anything. On a road course, the lighter, better balanced Corvette will hold its own — in the hands of the right driver, perhaps even outpace the Viper.

In 2008, if we add another 100hp to each one, i wouldn't expect significantly different results.

The only thing i know is that Vipers tend to come to the track on the back of trailers. The last one i drove several years ago was coarse, almost like a tractor driving on the road, although the power was very satisfying. In contrast, Corvettes as often as not drive to the track, swap street tires for track tires, and then play. That makes the Corvette the better car, in my opinion. It really is a dual-purpose machine that you can live with 7 days a week.
