About Liberty Bell Auto Protect

Liberty Bell Auto Protect was based in New Jersey and offered extended car warranty plans in every state except California. As of September 2021, our team has been unable to reach Liberty Bell Auto Protect representatives by phone and has received reports from consumers that this provider is no longer in business.

The extended warranty company previously held a B rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB), but the rating was recently updated to an F.

Liberty Bell Auto Protect Extended Car Warranty Coverage

Liberty Bell Auto Protect previously offered three coverage levels, although the difference between the Platinum and Platinum Plus plans was small.

There are few restrictions on who qualified for coverage. Coverage was fully transferable and available for vehicles with up to 140,000 miles. Plans covered repairs for up to 5 years/60,000 miles, whichever came first.

All of Liberty Bell Auto Protect’s plans came with 24-hour roadside assistance, which included towing, fuel delivery, jump-starts, and flat tire service. You would also get limited coverage for rental car reimbursement if your car was in the shop for a covered repair, as well as trip interruption services and reimbursement.

Platinum Prime

The Platinum Prime plan was Liberty Bell’s bumper-to-bumper coverage option and covered nearly all major systems. In addition to what the lower-tier Platinum Plus plan covered, Platinum Prime covered parts and labor (minus the deductible) for these mechanical systems:

  • Air conditioning
  • Fuel system
  • Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
  • Suspension
  • Turbo/supercharger
  • Seals
  • Gaskets
  • GPS navigation

Platinum Plus

The Platinum Plus plan was very similar to the lower-tier Platinum plan. The only additional system it covered was steering.

Platinum

The Platinum plan is Liberty Bell Auto Protect’s powertrain plan, which offered the most basic coverage. Parts and labor were covered (minus the deductible) for the following mechanical failures:

  • Engine
  • Transmission
  • Cooling system
  • Drive axle
  • Brake system
  • Four-wheel and all-wheel drive

Cost Of Liberty Bell Auto Protect Extended Warranties

When our research team reached out to Liberty Bell Auto Protect for quotes in September 2021, no one answered the phone or returned our calls.

In early 2021, we received quotes for bumper-to-bumper and powertrain extended warranty plans from Liberty Bell Auto Protect and other top competitors. We found Liberty Bell to be competitive in terms of price at about $85 per month for coverage.

Here’s how Liberty Bell Auto Protect’s quotes stacked up against the competition for 5-year/60,000-mile vehicle service contracts. Keep in mind that our quotes were for specific vehicles, and your own prices may vary depending on your vehicle make, model, age, and mileage.

Platinum Prime: Bumper-To-Bumper Coverage Cost

For the highest level of coverage that Liberty Bell Auto Protect offered, you would pay an affordable rate compared to other providers.

When we reached out for a quote for a 2018 Honda Civic with 30,000 miles, the total cost of coverage was $2,190–more than $200 less than the average cost among top competitors we surveyed. The monthly cost of coverage is also reasonable for a 24-month payment plan. At $85 per month, Liberty Bell Auto Protect fell in the middle range of monthly payment amounts.

Platinum: Powertrain Coverage Cost

If you were looking for a little less coverage for an older vehicle, Liberty Bell Auto Protect costs weren’t too different than coverage for new cars.

We found that for a 2012 Subaru Outback with 88,000 miles, Liberty Bell’s total cost for powertrain coverage was still below competitors’ average costs at $2,256. Monthly payments we were quoted were mid-range, costing $87.75 per month with a 24-month payment term.

How Liberty Bell Auto Protect Works

In the past, our team had a simple and straightforward experience receiving a Liberty Bell Auto Protect quote by phone, and the whole process took less than five minutes. Today though it seems that the warranty provider has stopped answering its phones.

Like many extended auto warranty providers, Liberty Bell Auto Protect offered a 30-day money-back guarantee. It’s worth noting that this period is really just a chance to change your mind and review the details of your policy–customers can only use vehicle protection plan benefits after 30 days of coverage.

If you bought a new car or sold your covered vehicle, your policy was fully transferable. This means you could continue to get the same coverage you started with for your new car, or potentially boost the resale value of your vehicle.

Liberty Bell Auto Protect Reviews

Liberty Bell Auto Protect has an F rating from the BBB. When the company was operating normally, there were many reviews across Trustpilot and Google, although the bulk of them focus on the sales team. Positive reviews mentioned Liberty Bell agents by name and applauded their professionalism, knowledge, and willingness to answer any and all questions.

“Liberty Bell Auto Protect is an excellent company and in particular the agent I dealt with… went above and beyond answering my numerous questions and remained professional and calm during the whole period.”

– James Scott, Trustpilot

There were fewer negative customer reviews. However, these reviews shared a common feeling of unfair claims denials. While it’s frustrating to receive a denial, it’s important to fully understand the limitations of your policy so that you’re not caught by surprise at the repair shop.

“Like almost all extended auto coverage companies, they are warm and excited to sell you a policy. But then, when you have a needed repair, they are slow to respond, often weeks later.”

–  Charles Whitt, Trustpilot

Bottom Line On Liberty Bell Auto Protect

Liberty Bell Auto Protect was an affordable option for extended car warranties for a decade, but it appears to have gone out of business in 2021. Because of this, our team recommends reaching out to one of the industry’s top providers instead.
