To enjoy your Land Rover for years to come, you’ll want to keep it in good shape. To that end, the Land Rover extended warranty can help pay for repairs to high-performance parts and luxury systems. However, it doesn’t last as long as other options on the market from third-party providers.

We’ve reviewed a number of the best extended warranty companies that Land Rover owners can take advantage of. Get free quotes from multiple providers and see how they compare to what your dealership offers.

In This Review:

What Does A Land Rover Extended Warranty Cover?

Land Rover’s extended warranty can cover almost any mechanical or electrical part on your car. In our research, we found that a Land Rover extended warranty can cover vehicles up to 100,000 miles.

Some companies provide extended warranty details on their main websites. Land Rover does not. Different Land Rover dealer websites have different details about the program, which is called the Land Rover Vehicle Protection Plan.

We’ll include information on coverage we found from looking at multiple dealership websites here. Be aware that coverage can change, and different dealers may offer different plans and incentives. Land Rover also works with multiple contract administrators across the U.S., so contract terminology may be slightly different between administrators.

One dealership brochure said plan administrators include the United Service Protection Corporation and Assurant Services Protection. Depending on the dealer, the plan could be backed by other organizations, as well. Land Rover works with insurance companies that have an A rating from AM Best.

Land Rover Vehicle Protection Plan Coverage Details

The Land Rover extended warranty provides genuine parts installed by certified Land Rover technicians. The extended warranty is transferable, which can add to the value of your car if you decide to sell it, and it’s also cancellable. Here are some examples of covered parts:

    • Engine: All internally lubricated parts including pistons, pins, rings, connecting rods, and the crankshaft
    • Transmission: All internally lubricated parts, the torque converter, filler tube, vacuum modulator, internal linkage, and transmission mounts
    • Drive axle: All internally lubricated parts (includes housing if the failure is due to an internally lubricated part)
    • Air conditioning: Compressor, clutch, clutch pulley, clutch coils, and electrical HVAC actuators
    • Heating/cooling: Water pump, thermostat, radiator, and coolant recovery unit
    • Electrical: Starter, alternator, voltage regulator, distributor, ignition coil, wiring harness, solenoids, and ignition switch
    • Braking: Master cylinder, power assist booster, wheel cylinders, combination valves, metal hydraulic lines, and disc calipers (brake pads and shoes not covered)
    • Suspension: Struts, mounting plates, retainer and bushing, upper and lower control arms, and control arm shafts and bushings
    • Steering: Gear housing and all internally lubricated parts including the rack and pinion and power steering pump
    • Fuel delivery: Fuel pump, fuel tank, fuel tank sending unit, fuel lines, and fuel injectors
    • High-tech components: Blind spot monitors, hands-free systems, rear monitoring systems, driver information center, keyless access systems, navigation systems, multimedia interface, and voice command system

We contacted a dealer for more information on the plan. We were informed that the vehicle protection plan can give new cars an extra 50,000 miles of coverage after the factory warranty of 4 years/50,000 miles. That means 100,000 miles is the maximum term for the plan from that dealership for 2021 vehicles.

Coverage terms can vary depending on your vehicle’s mileage and the options available from your dealer. You may find a Land Rover extended warranty that lasts longer than 100,000 miles. To get a quote, you’ll have to contact your local Land Rover retailer.

    Land Rover Extended Warranty Perks

The Land Rover Vehicle Protection Plan comes with the following perks:

    • Roadside assistance: Includes towing, flat tire assistance, fuel delivery, battery jump-starts, lockout assistance, and more
    • Trip interruption: Reimburses food and lodging expenses caused by a breakdown over 50 miles from home

Since this is a dealer-backed extended warranty, you should also receive a loaner vehicle from the shop anytime you go in for a repair.

What The Land Rover Extended Warranty Doesn’t Cover

Land Rover’s extended warranty doesn’t cover:

    • Wear and tear
    • Maintenance (Land Rover offers prepaid maintenance plans)
    • Cosmetic items
    • Damage from accident, theft, or environmental events
    • Alignment or other adjustments

In addition to these items, the contract also comes with a list of excluded parts. It’s important to read the fine print to know exactly what is and isn’t covered, so you won’t be surprised later on.

Land Rover doesn’t require you to visit a dealership for repairs, but it does provide an incentive to do so. If you go to a Land Rover retailer for repairs, you won’t have to pay a deductible. If you go to any other licensed repair facility, you’ll have to pay a $100 deductible.

The Land Rover extended warranty documentation online isn’t consistent on this point, though. According to some dealers, you’ll pay a $100 deductible at Land Rover retailers and a $250 deductible elsewhere.

Land Rover Vehicle Protection Plan Price

Extended warranty prices are based on the year, mileage, and model of your Land Rover. Different dealerships also tend to offer different prices. If you get a Land Rover extended warranty quote from one dealer that seems high, don’t be afraid to negotiate or visit another Land Rover dealership to purchase a plan. You can also see if your local dealer will match a lower price from another dealer.

Land Rover doesn’t publish prices online. One driver in a Land Rover forum was quoted almost $4,000 for a seven-year plan. Since Land Rover already provides five years of coverage under its factory warranty, the extended warranty added two more years. That works out to about $2,000 per year of extended coverage, which is expensive in the industry. Of course, Land Rovers are luxury vehicles, so that’s to be expected.

In our research, we found most leading third-party providers offer extended warranty coverage that costs between $350 and $650 per year of coverage for non-luxury vehicles. Luxury vehicle coverage will cost more, but you should still be able to find third-party plans for Land Rovers that are cheaper than $2,000 per year.

Do You Need Land Rover Warranty Coverage?

A Land Rover extended warranty can be useful for maintaining your monthly budget for car repairs. Land Rovers need specialized parts and care, which can be expensive to cover out of pocket. According to RepairPal, Land Rover drivers pay about $1,174 per year on maintenance and repairs.

That’s a sizable chunk of change. The average cost of maintenance and repairs, across all brands, is about $652 per year. Land Rover also came in last place on J.D. Power’s 2021 U.S. Vehicle Dependability StudySM, which looked at the frequency of repair shop visits in a number of three-year-old vehicles.

You should expect repair costs to vary year by year. You might not pay more than a few hundred dollars in one year and then encounter a $1,500 repair the next. Here are some repair costs other drivers have paid (via RepairPal):

    • LR3 powertrain control module replacement: $1,873 to $1,890
    • Range Rover Sport engine oil level sensor replacement: $442 to $537
    • Range Rover Evoque MAP sensor replacement: $153 to $162

What Coverage Do You Already Have?

Before considering a Land Rover extended warranty, you should also know what coverage you have on your vehicle. Whether you bought a new, used, or certified pre-owned (CPO) Land Rover, your car could have coverage.

Here’s what the Land Rover factory warranty provides on all models:

    • 4-year/50,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty (bumper-to-bumper and powertrain)
    • 6-year/unlimited-mileage corrosion perforation warranty
    • Emissions warranties for various terms
    • Roadside assistance during New Vehicle Limited Warranty

Extended warranties don’t usually cover corrosion or emissions systems, so the main thing to know is whether your car has coverage remaining on its New Vehicle Limited Warranty. This warranty stays with the vehicle if it’s resold.

Certain used vehicles in good condition are eligible for Land Rover’s CPO program. CPO vehicles come with the Land Rover Approved Certified Warranty, which expands the limited warranty to 7 years/100,000 miles. It also includes roadside assistance.

Benefits Of A Third-Party Extended Warranty

Land Rover only gives drivers one option for an extended warranty. But if you widen your search, you’ll find third-party warranty companies that offer a number of different options to customize coverage.

Third-party providers will let you purchase a plan after your factory warranty has expired, while dealerships often limit warranty purchases to the day you buy the vehicle or before the factory warranty expires. Another drawback to Land Rover’s extended warranty is the maximum mileage limit. Whether you find a plan for 75,000 or 100,000 miles, it still won’t match what third-party companies can cover.

    Endurance Land Rover Extended Warranty

Our top recommendation for a Land Rover extended warranty is Endurance. The company’s Supreme plan with the Highline add-on is a specialized warranty designed for a variety of luxury models. It’s an exclusionary warranty, so it covers all mechanical breakdowns unless specifically noted in the list of exclusions. The Endurance Highline option is available for all Land Rover models including:

    • Range Rover Velar
    • Range Rover Evoque
    • Discovery
    • Defender

The Bottom Line: Land Rover Extended Warranty

So, should you buy the Land Rover extended warranty? Here are the pros: The warranty offers comprehensive coverage with roadside assistance, and it allows you to get repairs from other licensed shops besides the dealership.

On the other hand, you get a relatively short coverage term for a high price. At the end of the day, we think it’s smart to get quotes from both the manufacturer and several leading warranty companies so you can compare plans side by side.
