What Does A Dodge Extended Warranty Cover?

All Dodge vehicles that are still within 48 months from their in-service dates and have less than 48,000 miles are eligible for Dodge extended warranty coverage through Mopar. There are four levels of coverage that can provide protection for up to 8 years/150,000 miles.

    • Maximum Care: This exclusionary plan covers most mechanical and electrical components up to 8 years/150,000 miles.
    • Added Care Plus: This comprehensive, stated-component plan covers many components for up to 8 years/125,000 miles, including the engine, transmission, anti-lock brakes, suspension components, Mopar accessories, the starter motor, voltage regulator, and distributor.

Depending on your location, a Powertrain Care plan and a Powertrain Care Plus plan may also be available. Each powertrain plan may also have a lifetime term available, depending on your Dodge dealer.

Maximum Care coverage is the most extensive plan available. It covers all vehicle components, except for a list of excluded components. Some parts not covered by Maximum Care are:

    • Bumpers
    • Glass
    • Brake pads and shoes
    • Wiper blades
    • Airbags
    • Upholstery
    • Tires
    • Wheels

Perks Of A Dodge Extended Warranty

All Dodge extended warranty contracts are transferable for a $50 fee and come with the following additional benefits:

    • Roadside assistance: Reimburses up to $100 per occurrence for towing, flat tire changes, battery jump-starts, fuel delivery, and lockout services
    • Rental car reimbursement: Provides $35 per day for up to five days per repair
    • Trip interruption protection: Pays up to $1,000 for lodging and meals if you break down far from home

    Dodge Extended Warranty Cost

On one dealership website, we were able to find the following Dodge extended warranty sample quotes: For most 2020 Dodge vehicles under 36,000 miles, a 5-year/60,000-mile Maximum Care plan would cost $1,175 with a $200 deductible, $1,280 with a $100 deductible, or $1,540 with a $0 deductible. For an Added Care Plus plan of the same terms, coverage ranged from $1,100 to $1,345, depending on your deductible.

Overall, these prices are competitive for five-year warranty coverage. However, the cost of your Dodge extended warranty will vary depending on your location, vehicle, and dealer.

Do You Need Dodge Warranty Coverage?

Dodge extended warranty coverage may be available at a low cost relative to competitors, but do you need an extended warranty in the first place?

To answer this question, consider vehicle reliability as well as factory coverage. Reliable vehicles may not require additional protection, and if your car is still covered under its factory warranty, you may not want to buy a Dodge extended warranty–especially if you don’t plan to keep your car for long.

    Dodge Reliability

Dodge makes fairly reliable vehicles. According to RepairPal, across the auto industry the average annual cost of car repairs is $652, but the average repair cost across Dodge models is $634.

Listed below are reliability ratings and average annual repair costs for three popular Dodge models.

    RepairPal Reliability Rating

    Average Annual Repair Cost

    Dodge Charger

    3.5 out of 5.0

    $652

    Dodge Durango

    3.5 out of 5.0

    $675

    Dodge Grand Caravan

    4.0 out of 5.0

    $673

Dodge vehicles don’t often require expensive repairs, and it’s unlikely that you’ll suddenly be stuck with an extremely high repair bill. But no matter how reliable they are, unexpected and costly repairs are a possibility with any type of car.

While the chance that the cost of a Dodge extended warranty will exceed the cost of repairs is low, an extended warranty can still provide peace of mind on the road. However, if you can afford to save for repairs on your own, it may be more economical to forego a warranty.

    Dodge Factory Warranty

New Dodge vehicles come standard with a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, a 3-year/36,000-mile basic limited warranty, and Mopar limited warranties for parts and accessories like batteries, brake pads and shoes, shocks and struts, and more.

Certified pre-owned (CPO) Dodge vehicles are protected by a 7-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty and a 3-month/3,000-mile Maximum Care warranty.

Dodge factory warranty lengths are standard. Most owners will probably choose to keep their vehicles past the three-year basic limited warranty period. If you want your Dodge to be protected for the duration of your ownership, you will most likely need to look into extended warranty options.

Benefits Of A Third-Party Extended Warranty

Mopar vehicle protection plans come at a low price, as far as extended warranties go. It is unlikely that a third-party provider will be able to give you the same level of coverage at a lower rate. However, you won’t know until you compare quotes for yourself.

If your Dodge is older or if you are purchasing a used Dodge, your vehicle may not be eligible for a Dodge extended warranty. In this case, a third-party provider is your only option for extended protection. Other benefits to third-party providers are that you do not need to have your vehicle serviced at a Dodge dealership, and longer coverage terms are usually available.

The Bottom Line: Dodge Extended Warranty

Rather than purchase an extended warranty, it may be cheaper in the long-term to save for Dodge repairs yourself. Dodge vehicles are fairly reliable according to RepairPal, and it is unlikely that you will experience a major, sudden malfunction, at least until your vehicle has considerably aged.

That said, unexpected and expensive repairs are sometimes unavoidable, even for the most reliable vehicles. A Dodge extended warranty can provide you peace of mind and offer a way to finance repair costs if you can’t afford to pay out of pocket.

If you decide to purchase an extended auto warranty, the Dodge extended warranty is likely to be the cheapest, most comprehensive option you will find. However, if you are interested in higher coverage terms and flexible plan options with better benefits, consider an extended warranty from a third-party provider.
