We tend to default to the attractive but underpowered SP2 by Volkswagen do Brasil, a follow-up of sorts to the Karmann Ghia. It was built between 1972 and 1977, with only one ever imported to Europe — to Portugal. But there are other such hidden gems, many built by independent companies, waiting to be discovered — perhaps on the pages of this very site. Go forth.
