Heritage grille my ass. The Bugatti Veyron is a two-ton rodent, not a modern take on 1920s racing cars.
At 180 pounds, adult capybaras are the largest rodents on Earth. It would still take 24 of the biggest specimens to outweigh a production Veyron, which measures in at 4,162 pounds. Poor Phil, the groundhog pictured above to illustrate the typical rodent incisors and snout structure, would be dwarfed by that W16 Franco-Germanic menace.
It would take a trip 4 million years back in time, all the way to the Pliocene, to find a rodent which could face a Veyron as an equal. Extrapolated from a skull found in Uruguay, Josephoartigasia monesi is estimated to have weighed as much as 2.5 tons. The science of paleontology has yet to peg its prehistoric acceleration.
