You know what you whiny little automatic transmission haters? Get stuffed.
If truly you are an enthusiast, you should be thanking your lucky stars that GM is offering the ZL1 with an automatic.
Why? Well, there are several reasons:
1) More ZL1s will sell.
Let's face it, Ford may sell as many GT500s as they decide to make, but if they were to broaden the appeal of the GT500 to a larger market, they would sell a whole lot more. And the more they sell, the more likely we are to see more such cars in the future, and the more likely they are to better amortize costs. GM got smart and realized that, thus deciding to offer the ZL1 Camaro with an automatic.
For those that still don't get the concept, here it is in formulaic form:
Automatic-equipped Camaro ZL1s = More sales.
More sales = More ZL1s for us, and greater likelihood of replacement
More ZL1s for us and greater likelihood of replacement = Good.
Thus, by logical extension, Automatic-equipped Camaro ZL1s = Good.
2) More likely the wife will let you have one.
Seriously, the number one reason why married men buy automatics? So that their wives can drive them as well. Think about that for a moment.
3) It takes as much skill to drive an automatic well as it does to drive a manual.
There's a lot more to being a car guy and a talented driver than simply being able to use a clutch. Just ask Jim Mero, who set the record for the fastest production 4-door car around the Nurburgring in an automatic transmission-equipped Cadillac CTS-V. Or ask Jensen Button, Mark Webber, Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, etc. None of their precision-honed racing machines are traditional manuals. I wonder why.
4) If you don't like it, you don't have to buy it.
That one's pretty much self-explanatory.
5) If you feel the need to bitch about what someone else is driving, then buddy, that someone else isn't the problem, nor is the type of transmission someone else's car happens to have. You're the problem. Stop worrying about other people and their cars and worry about your own. If you can't do that, then go talk to a shrink about whatever insecurity is causing you to put other people down and figure out how to deal with it in a manner that is more constructive and more beneficial to you as an individual whole.
