A behind the scenes look at Ford's experimental turbine trucks

Few people know Ford experimented with turbine engines designed as possible replacement for diesel power in their large commercial trucks back in the early 1970s.

This excellent vintage clip offers a behind the scenes look at the research and development of these uniquely engineered trucks with Car and Track host Bud Lindemann.

Who knew big rigs could sound so cool?

Oh, that Bud Lindeman and his wacky accent where the ends of words get shortened as he sees fit. He actually had very lazy speech patterns. Turbine becomes turb-in, Dearborn becomes Dearb-un. His shows are absolute classics, but his manner of speaking was very casual, northern part of the south in nature.
