Remember when we thought that the Veloster Turbo would run $1,600 more than the base model? It turns out that $1,600 only covers the cost of the engine upgrade. The actual starting price will be $22,725.

We get our news this time from Eric Tingwall, Senior Editor of Automobile Magazine. At that price, the Veloster Turbo will be neck and neck with the 500 Abarth, which starts $22K.

Well let see here, we have the Veloster starting at $22725, but for just $1200 more I could get any one of these choices - VW GTI, MazdaSpeed3, Honda Civic Si, MX-5 Miata, CooperS. All of those are great cars with a long history of improvement. For an extra $2500 I can start getting a Scion FRS, Ford Focus ST, Mustang V6, and that puts me in either a proper 2.0L turbo with a ton of power to spare or RWD.

The choice on this is easy, I would put my money where the proof is. The Veloster turbo is in a market and at a price point where it has a lot of stiff competition and I think the out put of the car will not meet a lot of enthusiasts expectations. I plan to trounce the Veloster turbo with my stock Ralliart that I picked up used with 5K miles for only $22500.
