The new C-Class coupe, first shown earlier this month at the Geneva Motor Show, received its inevitable AMG upgrades this weekend ahead of next month's New York Auto Show. What can we expect? How about a heaping helping of power?

Those dressings include the always-welcome 451 horsepower 6.2-liter V8 with a a seven-speed Speedshift MCT gearbox that should take the two-door AMG hotness from 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds with a top speed of 155 MPH. Or, when you tick the AMG Development pack check box, you'll get 481 horses, a 4.3 second 0-to-60 time and a 174 MPH top speed thanks to a slew of parts borrowed from the gullwing SLS AMG.

From the outside, the AMG coupe gets the single-crossbar front end treatment, 18-inch painted gray wheels and a lip spoiler with matching black front and rear aprons — all adding up to one evil-looking Mercedes-Benz two-door.

Well, we think anyway. The press shots are in white but we think it'll look sick in black. The 2012 C63 AMG coupe is expected to hit dealer showrooms in September — at the same time as the newly-revised C63 AMG sedan.

We'll take two.

DISCUSSION

The problem I have with the C Coupe is the same problem I have with many modern car designs. The beltline is too high (especially toward the back, which I'm sure is great for crash standards and trunk space), making the whole car seem narrower and taller, which takes away from the sporty look.

BMW has it right.

also, no manual = no thanks
