The team started off pretty well yesterday (qualified 18th out of 110 cars), but fuel pump woes seem to be holding them back at the moment. Follow their story on El Taxi Perdido's site!

I did the California Melee alongside the El Taxi Perdido team (yes, that full-race Alfa is licensed for the street, and did the 1000-mile rally without any problems) and talked to Conrad just before the team left for Mexico.

"You know," he told me, "this car has already done La Carrera twice."

"So that means it's ready?"

"No. That means it's worn out, and has to be completely rebuilt."

Well, it's been rebuilt. And it's friggin' spectacular. And no, it's not running the original 1600cc motor. #alfaromeo
