Volkswagens of this era tend to be extremely rust-prone; park a Type 3 on the Moon and it would probably have holes in the floorboards after a few years. This one looks pretty solid. I always have a helluva time figuring out the model year on these things; in this case, the bumpers and turn signal lenses coupled with the 1971-72 Rocky Mountain Division sticker seem to indicate a '72 model.

it's actually a 1970, the first year of the "pig nose" body. you know it's not any later as there's no flow-through air vents on the C pillar, which partly accounts for the lack of rust.

those rear vents trapped a lot of moisture inside, especially on the fasty.

71 and later also had big round air vents on the dash, FWIW.
