While the 1950 Pontiac's illuminated Indian-head hood ornament may be impossible to beat, the illuminated sailing-ship ornaments used by postwar Plymouths come close. We've seen a few of them in this series, including this rat-rodded '48, and this clean '50.

This car belongs to the owner of this very nice 1960 Volkswagen Transporter and will soon be getting a late-model Caprice chassis and fully modernized running gear. Suicide doors with a late-20th-century V8! That will have to wait until he's done building his current project: a '64 Chevy II with triple-carbed 250 six and aftermarket suspension.
