Illustration for article titled This Enormously Powerful Mercedes Racer Sounds Like NASCAR On Steroids

You ever wonder what a race-bred, almost 1000-horsepower, twin-turbo Mercedes 5.0-liter V8 sounds like? It sounds like rage and fury and everything nice. It sounds like NASCAR on amphetamines. It’s the Mercedes-Benz C11, and it’s perfect.

The C11 was dominant in the 1990 World Sports-Prototype Championship, winning both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ titles, winning every single race that year except for two. One was won by the Sauber C9, the C11's predecessor, and the other one by a Jaguar XJR-11.

And if you’re losing just to those two, you’re doing alright.
