The new TVR company led by British entrepreneur Les Edgar took more than 250 deposits for its Gordon Murray-designed and Cosworth-powered sports car that will debut at next year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. That means if you want one, you’ll have to wait until 2018 now.

While we haven’t even seen the car yet, its target weight of 2,425 pounds and a naturally-aspirated Cosworth V8 up front can give you some clues about its performance.

It only took six weeks for TVR to get those 250 deposits down, and with that, they already hit their production target for the 2017 model year. The first new TVR in more than a decade will be built in the UK using Gordon Murray’s iStream technology.

TVR is also planning to relaunch a one-make racing series and make it to Le Mans in the long run to prove their car’s reliability.

Edgar also told me this summer that they will use superchargers instead of turbos to get more power, America is highlighted on their map but they have to figure out what you want first, and he wouldn’t mind building a bonkers SUV later on, but only after they have enough scary fast sports cars in their lineup to keep everybody satisfied. After closing the books for 2017, he had this to say:

This a heart-warming situation we find ourselves in. We are mindful that we have taken deposits from customers who have not even yet seen official pictures of the car. Nevertheless people have been prepared to part with a substantial sum on the basis of what we have been able to openly convey about the project, and on the strength of the partnerships that we have formed with Gordon Murray Design and Cosworth Engineering. We look forward to revealing more details soon, and to all our customers who have shown their faith I can promise that the new car will exceed expectations in every way.

I haven’t been able to reach Edgar online ever since we met at Goodwood, because apparently, “he is not good with emails.” But that’s fine. I have a feeling he’s good with cars, and that’s all I expect from the head of TVR.
