Which Car On Sale Today Has The Best Exhaust Note?

We post a lot of videos around here of cars singing their operatic notes at full song. Screams, bellows, fluttering pops and crackles, and rampaging elephants all make the cut. But only one car on sale sounds the best.

I think it's the McLaren P1, because it does sound the best, and I am right. But apparently this sort of pronouncement doesn't go over well in the International Jalopnik World Headquarters Bunker Under Nathan Lane's House, as it caused quite a bit of consternation. Travis was a big fan of Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and the Jaguar F-Type.

Raphael was partial to the Kia Soul, because, well, that's Raph.

Don't get me wrong, those cars all play a nice tune. But while those are fine and good, only one car can have an exhaust note that is truly The Best. The McLaren's sounds not just like a single guitar player shredding a solo, but a whole symphony at once. There are low, grizzly growls, and both a screaming bear and a piercing falcon at the top. The engine is so wonderfully complex, with so many things going on simultaneously, that when they all come together it's like hearing the final crescendo from O Fortuna for the first time.

That doesn't mean that Ravel's Bolero, or the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah aren't incredible as well, but there's just not as moving, not as soul-stirring, for me.

And that's why the McLaren P1 gets my vote as the best-sounding car on sale today. The video up top is from when Top Gear filmed at the Circuit Spa-Francorchamps. It's blissfully silent, except for that magnificent twin-turbo hybrid V8, and you can hear it in all its glory.
