After months of snickering speculation by auto media types, Volkswagen has confirmed it will build an upmarket Passat four-door, front-drive coupe. It'll be a coupe, naturally, in the sense of the low-slung Mercedes CLS, the cause of more more head banging (at least among rear passengers) than 1983-era Judas Priest. The new model, shown above in a spec image by a Jalopnik reader, will hit in 2008, likely after an unveiling at the 2007 Frankfurt motor show. Sources say it'll get four-cylinder, VR6 and turbocharged R36 versions — and possibly a hybrid.
