GM issued a press release today announcing it was betting heavily on the growing segment of crossover SUVs (yep, we're stuck with the name; might as well get used to it) — extending its lineup to 14 models by 2009. Think of it: 14 crossovers. Smallish ones like the Opel Antara and Chevrolet S3X, bigish ones like the GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook, luxurious ones, economy ones, fast ones, slow ones, ones that look like gourds, ones you couldn't tell apart if your life depended on it. In all, possibly 3.5 million units by 2010. Can GM turn its business around on the crossover SUV, or are we about to have another running punchline for the next decade?
