Lamborghini is introducing a new, special-edition Gallardo model, with new OEM rims and color schemes, a two-tone interior, slightly more horsepower and something called "thrust mode." According to the company, "thrust mode" is a variation on the Gallardo's optional six-speed, electronically controlled sequential gearbox, e.gear, that optimizes acceleration and gear changes "from a standing start throughout all gears." In addition to full-time AWD, traction control, ABS and two front and side airbags, along with a rear-view camera hooked to the car's multimedia screen to assist in parking.

The Gallardo SE also offers shorter ratios in the first five gears, which helps shave 0.2 seconds off its zero-to-60 acceleration (4.0 seconds total), compared to the base model. Top speed is also greater, at nearly 196mph (vs 192mph). Sport suspension, with sports steering wheel and P Zero Corsa tires are standard on the SE. The Gallardo SE will be available in Europe, starting this September, at a list price of around $170,000.
