With today's Subaru ads- and, for that matter, Subarus themselves- being so slick these days, it's enjoyable to watch a low-production-value ad from 20 years ago. That's right, forget about that big ol' Chevy pickup you thought you wanted- you'll be kickin' up that Tennessee dust with your new XT! More »

A low-budget ad like this one- which seems to have been filmed on a budget that even Cal Worthington would have found unacceptably restrictive- makes the '88 Subarus seem somehow endearing, especially when compared to the super-slick Subaru ads we get nowadays. Of course, it's hard to beat the "Cheap Ugly Su-BAR-u" ads of '69 in the cheapness department, but you need to step up the production values when your engines go from two strokes to four. More »

We saw the Gremlin beat the Spirit by quite a margin in our last Choose Your Eternity poll. Maybe it was the Wayne's World connection, or maybe it was just the obscurity of the AMC Spirit. Either way, we're going to follow up a pair of quirky American machines with a pair of equally quirky Japanese machines. Sure, Subaru is plenty mainstream in North America these days, but remember when Subarus just seemed vaguely weird, say a couple decades back? When you only saw the little boxer-powered cars in areas with huge amounts of snow and NPR listeners? Those 80s Subies are semi-rare and quite cool, not as bulletproof as your Japanese Big Three machines of the era, and parts are getting tough to find... which makes them great raw material for your <del>exile</del> adventures in the garage! More »

This is it. It's called the GMC Denali XT Hybrid Concept Truck, and this unibody rear-wheel drive Australian professional grade car-truck action set to be unveiled this week at the Chicago Auto Show is making us excited in a way we haven't been since we saw the first episode of My Name Is Earl. And why shouldn't we be? Everyone knows the El Camino had a GMC version called the <strike>Sprint</strike> Caballero! GM, knowing of our love of all things car with a truck-bed allowed us, along with the fellow lovers of all things El Camino at PickupTruck.com, the opportunity to go behind the scenes in sunny Southern California for an exclusive with the design team and some one-of-a-kind photos of this unique Aussie import. When we accepted the invite to attend (at our own expense of course) we were expecting to see nothing more than a re-badged four-door Holden Crewman updated to the current VE architecture. Cool, but nothing more than what you'd expect from a leader in re-badging. Instead what we got was stunning, jaw-dropping and mind-blowing. So grab a shrimp off the Barbie above and settle in for the full story below the jump, mate!

The knife was lifted, the bandages unwound, and here at SEMA in Vegas, we've seen the results of Subie's nose job — plus a bit of performance catalog love that made the production Forrester look ready n' willing to go rallying. Subie dropped the '07 model of the Sports 2.5X and XT showing off the JDM-inspired styling changes, specifically a less-than-anatomically-flying front end, including a black mesh grille, a deleted-tick-box on the roof rails and a new front clip. The Forrester Sports XT also sees a performance upgrade for the wants-to-be-rally-bound compact SUV with the turbocharged 224hp Boxer engine — taken straight from the 2.5 XT Limited. Full gallery via the link below, and the full press release after the jump. – Ray Wert More »
