There is so much truly sad irony that this was a Volvo. Unfortunately in life even the best planned, safest efforts can end tragically. If LeMons continues I suggest Corvairs and Pintos.

Probably the biggest risk to LeMons as it now exists is the racetracks, but I hope that it can go on. To reiterate what others have said: As much as I love cars most racing just bores me, but LeMons is something that I could care about.

@Spasticteapot: I'm pondering what to do. The lack of welding abilities is the only issue for a custom engine swap. But, maybe I convince the guys who I bought the engine/trans for my '69 CST/10 to help out, they dirt track race, and are some cool dudes.

Nothing is solid at all, this was just an idea I had last night... and waiting until past mothers day to ask if I can go racing, haha.

Honestly, it's the most powerful car I can find that's running. A few "Blown head gasket" types, but non compete with the Vovlo's 140-150 some-odd hp, lol.

Longhorns on the hood is pretty much a must.

Just, I never realized the costs outside the car are that big ($100/driver, extra safety clothing/equipment). Gotta hit up my bro's.... and see what I can get going.

Wow. I go away for a while and when I get a moment to poke my head in, I find out that somebody has wrecked and died at LeMons. That sucks and my condolences to the driver's family.
No matter what you do - from walking down the street to driving a car of questionable lineage around a racetrack - there is some danger involved, and I hope that the driver who lost his life was having the time of his life up until when the accident occurred.
I remember when the Irwindale Speedway opened 10 years ago. It was designed from the ground up to be an incredibly safe track, for both racers and spectators. All that effort was moot when, on opening night, a driver died in a freak accident at the pit entrance. Since then there have been about 6 deaths at Irwindale, none of which could have been foreseen or prevented due to track design. It's a dangerous sport, but as mentioned earlier, life doesn't provide any safe harbor from danger and meeting one's maker doing something you enjoy is always preferable to to going out at your desk at work or stuck in traffic.

I'm not going to be able to make it to the second day of the race-- mothers can be so unreasonable about Mother's Day-- but I wish everybody the best. The 72 "Lincoln" is a hoot---need a couple of shots of the grill, though--how much does a 72 lincoln grill weigh or is that a fabbed replica?
The detail is amazing, including the trim piece on the c pillar (though no opera window, of course). The detail in the pimps n hos costumes is also hilarious! I don't think you can find clothes like that in VA without shooting somebody to get them. You can't buy them, that's for sho.
