honestly; they're all big pieces of shit that keep on recycled & shitted again & again!

on the contrarty, FORD of Europe is sth, good quality cars with the oomph & Y-factor, along with good realiability & price, just take a look @ this car range, & weep ur sorry american metal ass:
1) Ford Ka
2) Ford Fiesta
3) Ford Focus (European Version)
4) Ford Mondeo
5) Ford Kuga (New 5 door CrossOver SUV)
6) Ford Galaxy (Family Van)

my advice... forget patriotism for a moment, ditch FORD US, & become a full time european car maker (already suited in Belgium)!!

*Note:
hell, even ditch the Mustang & the F-Truck range... they're pure crap compared to anything that comes out of Gm & Chrysler these days!

Don't get me wrong the Mondeo is fantastic but it is too small and expensive to compete in the mainstream (Accord and Camry) US market.
There's a reason Honda makes two Accords.

@BraappBraapp: I know, but thats my point. When the Mondeo was brought over here Ford made changes to it before it was sold as the Contour and it didn't last long.

When the Focus was brought over few things were changed from the Euroversion and they sold well, the Contour had many changes and it subsequently sold poorly.

the way Ford operates, getting this model state-side would involve the same amount of infrastructure as BMW or Mercedes building their models in N. America. It can be done, of course, but it's not as simple as it might seem.

That is a great looking car inside and out. To me, it's such a simple solution for Ford's problems in the U.S. Since they are bringing over the good Focus (maybe to test the waters here?), there's your sign Ford. Plus, this diesel knocks CAFE out of the park.

I believe Top Gear made this and the Legacy Outback co-Cars of the Year, correct?

@Uncle_Bo is El Commentamino: It's two completely different marketplaces, though $4 gas will bring them closer to eachother.

The Mondeo does not fit in the current US Ford lineup. It's too nice to be a Ford, it would have to be a Mercury, and then your starting price starts to slide too high. If you try to sell a stripped down model as Ford, you end up trying to pawn off a 1.6L four banger coupled to an automatic and everyone will hate it (and not entirely without a reason).

As ever the European designers show how it's done, just as every German car of the last thirty years has looked better than any American car, just as the European Honda Accord was so much more appealing than the blandmobile that was squeezed out for the use of bland people...of course bland sells well in this country, so maybe Ford are right not to sell it here.

Bring this car to the U.S., please, Ford - you'll have waiting lists as long as your benighted arms.

I'm not much for hatchbacks and don't care about diesel vs. gas, but this Mondeo is sharp as hell. I especially like the interior. I like the current Fusion as well but this car is several notches above it.

Goes to show you that Ford NA and Ford Europe only have the company name and logo in common. Past that, two completely different car companies. No wonder their stuff and US stuff are so different.

Seriously, what business case is working against bringing this car here? Probably the whole Contour disaster. "Oh, we tried bringing the Mondeo here, remember? And nobody bought it? Won't do that again!"

Someone needs to remind Ford that bringing unblemished Euro products here is a great idea that results in actual sales and critical acclaim (original Focus). Bringing them here and subsequently screwing them up in some fashion, not so great an idea (Merkur, Contour, Escort, etc.).

@Maymar: I don't think anyone on Jalop would disagree with your Focus wishes. Although I wouldn't be in the market for it, I don't think Ford's existing US Focus (the "SYNC Carrying Case") is going to keep going strong much longer.

@AshWipe: Sorry, I wasn't clear with my thoughts (I barely know what I'm thinking, translating it to everyone else is even more difficult). The 6 is a nice car, which makes the Fusion a nice car. I suppose the Euro looks of the Mondeo might be preferable to the smooth-shaving Dave Fusion, but I'm more concerned with getting a Focus designed this millenium to North America.

@Maymar: The 6 is indeed a nice car, but I'd like this Ford for the following reasons:

1. There are several times as many Ford dealers as Mazda. If one sucks, I have 5 other superstore-sized Ford establishments within 30 minutes.

2. Looks GREAT (wheels, meh) compared to the 6. The Mazda isn't ugly, but it suffers from some of that bug-eyed boy-racer/Anime treatment.

3. I'd just love to have a car I enjoy that has a domestic nameplate on it. Maybe this is some sense of nationalism, but it's still there. Not rational; intangible.

4. Diesel with reasonable quickness and efficiency. This could be offered by Mazda, but it would be a long shot in their ZoomZoom world.

Now, I don't feel bad that we get the Fusion instead of the Mondeo (remember, the Mazda 6 it's based off of is still a nice car) - I think it's a case of the grass being greener on the other side of the Atlantic. What I do wish we got was the greater variety of engines and options that Europeans seem to be more partial to.
