I think the 402 Darl'mat roadster is even more Jaloptastic. The headlights aren't behind the grille, as they are with other 402 and 302 models (including a woodie shooting brake!) but the windshield that cranks down into the cowl makes up for that. And you can't argue with a class win at Le Mans. Or LeMons, for that matter.

@Scroggs!: Once in a while I'm really impressed by the car people that seem to be French.
I think this is a special Peugeot D'arl Mat (sp?). They made a neat coupe too.

That is a beautiful car. Very nice. The front bumper isn't perfect- it should have been treated with the color & chrome all the way or the ends shaped a little differently. But I'd still own it if I could!

The old car hobby is the cure to "Bowling Alone". You can't drive an old car and be anti-social. Those two things are mutually exclusive. Car shows build social capital; they help us connect based on something we have in common. And a lot of times, the car connection is a lot more important and real than race, religion, or politics.

I drove my '64 Corvair convertible into work today, and the VP of the company comes over and starts chatting me up over the car. He has 6 beautifully restored Corvettes (I know, he has pictures of them at the office) and he's engrossed in my weathered old 'Vair.

Such is the way, with car nuts.

Trust me, guys, the first time you take this baby out, someone will a) key it or in some other way vandalize it, b) a decade-old Civic with a fart can and a park bench strapped to the roof will blow by you in second gear, then the zit-faced teenager with penis envy driving it swerves in front of you and slams on the brakes, and c) every time you stop for gas, a dozen or more senior citizens will climb out of their leather-lined Buick and Silveradio cocoons to tell you about the car they had just like that back when they were your age... and then the '57 Chevy they traded it for, and then the '62 Super Sport, and then the Dodge Charger... and then you'll hear some BS about how they use to race and how the were alpha males to all their drinking buddies.

Ah, the price you pay for driving an old car...
