@graverobber- Same great taste, new low price!: Funny you should mention the Manta. I had a '72 Rallye in Pu**y Magnet Yellow with the flat black hood. A/R 4 spoke mags with BFG D60X13 T/As, Koni shocks, and that wimpy little 2brl Solex exchanged for 2-40 DCOE side draft Webers and a header. My SCCA brothers hated me .....

@Paul Y. is Going Dumb at the Sideshow: @SpeedWagon: I never really got those aluminum slotted wheels; I always thought they looked cheap, and only belonged on plain, cheap cars.

I had them on my '70 Datsun 510; they looked right at home there.

But this mustang needs some very chrome Cragar SS or Appliance wheel equivalent. That or the Ford rallye wheel of the time.

@voodoojoo: Speaking of Chevelles and not having cameras, as I was about to launch my commute a yellow and black 70 Chevelle--which I heard rumbling before i saw it--my rear view mirror was vibrating--burbled by me and headed west on I64. Had antique plates (I think that's 25 years in VA) which was also really sad, because it means my youth is also now officially antique.

My favorite Mustangs are the '64.5-'66 model years, the '67-'68 less so due to being a bit fussy and overdone in the details. The '69, as exemplified by this DOTS entry, returned to the lean and mean look that I think any real Mustang should embody. I do miss the days of anti-glare black hoods, having lusted after an Opel Manta outfitted as such when I was 11 or so.

My brother had one,Going down the interstate the chain on the throttle linkage came off.If you are familiar with them the carbarator would go WOT. My brother let the car runaway with itself till the tach redlinedat around 150 mph. Then turned the key off and we coasted for about 3 miles. Pulled over and reattach the chain.

This car hits all the right buttons. Slotted mags, raised white letter tires, black hood, all the scoops in the right places. Great find!

I'd like to think the owner did a repaint and prior to adding back the tape stripes, he saw what a beauty it was in white and left it that way.

My girlfriend was conceived in the back of a '69 Mach I with a 390 and a 4 speed. Her dad eventually sold it for about $800 when they needed something that a) could fit the family, and b) got more than 9 mpg...tuned up. I think they ended up with a Granada.

She still lusts after a '69 Mach I. And I support her in this endeavor. ;)

@layabout: @JantheMan: If you pick the worst examples of any car, it's going to look terrible. I think a Civic hatch on a nice pair of 16" rims with no (or a few tasteful) body modifications looks good, and suprisingly sporty. And if it's got a B18 swap, it can be pretty quick.

As far as this car, I love it, and I love that it hasn't been obsessively restored to numbers-matching status. If I owned it, I'd be tempted to swap in a crate engine and run some big ass DOT slicks on it. Either that or convert it to a replica Boss 302.

I disagree, the current Mustang looks like it wants to eat a Civic. It's a great looking car.

The Mustang finally looks like a real and honest Mustang again. It carries the iconic and distinctive Mustang look of the originals. They stand out even more today on our roads filled with jellybeans they did back then to boot. I'll take a new Bullit, Shelby GT-H or GT500KR any day.

This car looks like an 'almost Mach 1' Maybe the owner(s) dressed it up through the years. The 351 is nice, and probably saved it from a life as a garage queen that a 428CJ would bring.
