@buckyworld: I drive a big boxy Eurovan - I've taken it multiple times loaded with family over the Cherohala. I could easily do the Dragon, but I don't have any flight sickness bags in the seat backs.

tech at the local Dodge store tells me some of his customers are getting VERY close to 30 mpg highway with these (albeit narrow but) full size vans. with the former MB 5 cyl. diesel.

makes a person think "Econo-what?" "Ram huh?"

i want one SO bad for transporting my drag bike and camping.
several companies also make RV's based on them.

and dudes, saying you can't drive the "dragon" in one of these is like saying old MG's aren't sports cars.
everything is relative, and ANYTHING can be enjoyable for exploring limits.

going beyond those limits is even more fun, but can get expensive.

@Dr. Schm: They are still being sold at certain Freightliner Dealers. One thing to note, if you buy the Sprinter from a Freightliner Dealer, most have service departments that are open nights and weekends, with a few that are open 24/7! Yes they will work on the Dodge Badged ones, but they have to wait behind the Freightliner Badged customers.

How do I know this. I was one of the most successful Sprinter Dealers in New England, until I left to whore my new product line. The newer versions don't get anywhere the fuel mileage the original ones did, but are a lot nicer overall.

Just about the right size for picking up commuters at their homes and dropping them off at their jobs using dynamic rather than fixed routes (at least at one end of the trip). In the SF Bay Area, a bunch of those on the HOV lanes would really cut down on traffic jams.

Do you think these are awsome.....These Sprinters drive around all summer loaded with russian, chinese or german tourists with season working drivers that are clearly not used to the city. They clogging crossings....sudden lane changes...They meke me angry.

@Tyson: Okey dokey.

The sprinter was first sold as a Freightliner when it was brought over. Now its sold as the "Dodge" Sprinter. However, nothing has been changed, the vans are even built in Germany as knock-down kits, then re-assimbled state-side.

And its a really good van. Probally one of the best (and im sorry to say this) models Mercedes makes.

Also, you can buy a MB conversion kit (Tri-star grille, steering wheel logo, badging, wheel caps, etc) for 500 bucks or so. [mercedessprinterconversions.com]

@Zagato7: You got; some Sprinter drivers aren't happy with the Dodge/Freightliner branding. Kits to convert back to Mercedes are cheap. BRW; Freightliner IS Mercedes, and Chrysler has a deal to keep selling Sprinters too.

75 feet long; NOT! The longest Sprinters aren't even half that length.

@ash78: Al and I have said this a half-dozen times - the Cherohala Skyway would be much better suited to the Carrera GT. Cherohala provides wide sweeping turns, amazing views and the room to get the speed you need to break on through to the other side.

But a Sprinter on the Dragon? Nothing says "test the laws of physics and die trying" like a high center of gravity, a long wheelbase, the need to conserve momentum and 30 dozen curves.

ok, someone please help me out...i see the Sprinter vans around the area i live (west chester, PA) used mostly as limo's and business vehicles, but I am confused because many of them have the 3-pointed star not only in the grille, but the wheels are Benz as well...I was under the impression that only Dodge and Freight Liner had the rights to sell these here, so is there a cosmetic retrofit kit available that that these guys are buying to turn them back into Benzes??

@morrisseyscoot: Chryslerus has a contract with DB for a few years of Sprinters, like the contract that DB has to sell Ram HDs as Sterling Bullet. There's no manufacturing overlap, so there's really no strong reason not to continue indefinitely, unless the dollars don't add up or Dodge and Freightliner/Sterling franchises get pissy about competing with each other.

Sterling is DB's umbrella brand for the Ford truck lines that DB bought.

I saw one of these at the Indy auto show a couple of years back. It was decked out with 1st class airline size single seats on each side of the isle. 110v power, headphone jacks, HVAC controls and more at each seat.

Gonna have to get me one of those some day....
