Last summer, Classic Motorsports Magazine drove an original 2.7RS and a bunch of replicas built off of other 911s. I couldn't help but think that new Porsches pale in comparison. Next to an old 911 (or the 356 from yesterday's DOTS), a 996 or 997 just looks like a fat pig.

Armand Bengle

I give this guy some credit for building the track toy of his dreams. You really can't argue with someone pouring blood, sweat, tears and way too much money into their dream car. But why did they use a '69 911 instead of a later one? The car's basic structure and many body panels stayed the same through the '97 993, so I really don't see the use in chopping up a chrome-bumper example.
One of my sick little automotive fantasies-- there are many-- is to take a late '80s 911 Carrera and backdate it with chrome bumpers and a ducktail spoiler. It's already got the same fender flares as a 2.7RS, and with a 3.2 liter motor it'll go as well as a full-race early 911. If I could get it titled as an old one, I could even put carburetors on it. I guess I'm just a little jealous that this guy has done the opposite with his Porsche.

Armand Bengle

But yeah, you are correct, on a car where a catalytic converter is required, the wastegates need to be plumbed back into the exhaust.
