What you would have is an absolutely ridiculous Lotus. It's glorious, in a way. You could never, ever explain it to someone who didn't understand immediately. You could also never, ever drive it in public. But it is truly "awlsome".

The other reason against the Ferrari is that it doesn't need any help at all. I would pay $5500 to have a half wrecked 308 in my backyard, just so I could sit on the decklid with a friend and drink beers. I would make it the centerpiece of my whole social life in the warm months. There is nothing wrong with that Ferrari.

Somewhere in Maranello, there's at least one guy who speaks passable English who will be able to hook you up with all the parts to rebuild your 308 to factory specs - targa roof and all. It'll cost you (especially since you're earning your chump change from The Man in dollars and paying your new friends at Ferrari in euros, and the 1:1.5 exchange rate will eat you alive), but you'll be able to get it done provided you're willing to apply enough financial grease.

The Lotus is British, so its electrical reliability is dodgy to begin with. It appears to have an engine other than the one with which it was born, so... God only knows, there, plus the wiring harness is likely to look like the one in Hardigree's project car. The cosmetic stuff is the least of its problems.

But it was my poster baby, so I will walk through the valley of the shadow of Lotus...

Personally, I'd buy another Fiero GT and ride off into the sunset. After all, 99 out of 100 teenage girls and 95 out of 100 teenage boys can't tell the difference between a Ferrari and a Fiero anyway.
And in city traffic, the V 12 is just an expensive CD player making beautiful music, sometimes, that almost nobody will ever hear.

Original rims, a coat of British racing green, and the mystery aluminum V8 behind door number 1, and I can start to see a fine vehicle in my mind's eye. THAT is the road to Hell.

The Ferrari is so hopeless so as to ward off even the maddest gearhead. If it were given to me, I'd start parting it out immediately.

The Lotus would also need more to get it back to its former glory than it will be worth when it's done, but at least when it's done, you wouldn't have lost as much on it.

The Lotus will be worth $5k-$10k less than the 308 when it's done, but it has to need more than $10k less than the Ferrari to get together. (anyone else able to follow that sentence?)
