Today I got beside one of those last generation giant turd-shaped accord coupes and noticed just how freakin' tall it was--the door handle was in the middle of the door. A few minutes later a bright red, completely stock, later model Fiero, but with the flat rear deck stopped next to me. It was low and flat and elicited more of a response from me than it ever did over twenty years ago.
Thanks Pontiac for the Solstice. It might not be practical, but by God it looks good.

I've been waiting for this or the fabled Miata coupe to arrive. I would love it if they ditched the floppy roofs in favor of a rigid hard top. That would be a great couple of Auto-x/track toys. Alas, we get the Miata hard-top convertible which looks great but is heavier and now a targa Solstice with a big heavy glass roof.

Dear Mazda & Pontiac, please make a hard-top track package for the racer boys. A carbon fiber roof would be nice (see M3).

i really didnt like the concept coupe because it looked like an orange pumpkin, but staring at this pixelated blurry pic has convinced my mind that it will sorta look like the poor man's bmw z4-based m coupe. which i would really dig.

@HAPPY SAINT POLAЯ'S DAY: Totally, I think everyone hear felt a bit of sadness when GM announced they'd be scaling back the P in Pontiac... Amazingly this recent news seem to just say "Hey, not everything leaks! We're sticking to it and gonna outdo ourselves while we're at it!!) Isn't that the Targa concept? Or am I wrong?

I can only hope they continue to expand and improve upon the kappa platform.

In 10 years, the Sky will probably look silly (er, sillier). The Solstice is a timeless design. Yes, I know the Sky is closer to the Opel it's based on, but that's neither here nor there.

@goatrope: Yes, I was glad Pontiac let their contract with Rubbermaid expire too.

I really like the looks of the Solstice coupe. It kind of reminds me of a modern interpretation of the Triumph GT6. Except, unlike the GT6, this should have a bit more oomph. Good job, GM.

i've been a big fan of the gm turnaround for about 2 years now (nice to see jalopers finally hopping on that wagon), and the solsti was were it really all seemed to get first stiction.

the only thing i didn't like about this cutie was the soft top and the way its details came together. the coupe solves this and goes stellar for me.
