Having had the pleasure of owning two 65 GTOs and a 1970 model, as well. I can only say that the G8 is a great ride, even in the v-6 version, I gave up all thoughts of buying that Mustang GT I was planning on. Still, it's hard to think of a "GTO" as a four door sedan. Anyway, we've done alot of shopping latetly and the G8 basically blew everything else out of the water.
OKLATEX: From Oklahoma, live in Louisiana, wish I were in Texas.
Would like a few more options, without having to buy a bunch of extra junk.

I am going to assume the GXP and GT interior are going to be identical as far as legroom goes. I just got done test driving a GT and I was very shocked at the amount of legroom in the back seat. I'm 6'2" and like to have the front seat laid back a bit. I adjusted the front seat to my liking and then got in the back seat behind the driver and still had 4 inches or more of room between my knees and the seat.

I was supposed to go back and sign the papers on the car this afternoon but am now thinking of waiting for the GXP. The extra HP is nice but the stick shift is what I want.

@LandofMinos: OK, let's start with the GTO. By the time it was slated to go out of production, there were quite a few still in the ports. GM was giving something like $8,000 rebates on them. As much as everyone here hates used car trades, a savvy used car department will take a look at the invoice of the car at that time, deduct for all rebates, deduct for mileage, look at a book as to what colors are selling (good for silver, bad for that tacky plum), do the usual deductions for tires, wear and tear, and..... voila. a True market value of $9,000 for a GTO. Too bad you still owe $20,000 on it!

@smokyburnout: Ahem, you forgot that most GM dealers will be doing the usual "Adjusted Market Value" markup on the first, oh, 2,500. Dodge dealers are going to do the same on the Challenger.

I remember working with a dealer who sells Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep products, and when the new SRT models first came out, there was an "Adjusted Market Value" addendum placed right next to the regular sticker. I remember things like "Carnuba Wax Treatment" $325, Pinstripe $125, and then the "Adjusted Market Value" $2,500. And you know what? they usually got it along with other packages like "Tire Protection", "Fabric Protection", and "Extended Warranties"

All of the enthusiasts on this board will walk out on these types of dealers, but those are the dealers who get the first ones in the country. If they don't get sold, then the car companies look at it as a failure. They can't control them, and most states do not allow direct manufacturer dealerships. Good luck to everyone who is looking for a bargain and a G8 GXP (or even the El Camino)!

Well, it isn't actually Corvette power as this engine in the Corvette is rated at 430 hp and I've posited from day one that the LS3 in the G8 GXP would be somewhere less. So to avoid the wrath of Corvette owners everywhere don't call it Corvette power in a sedan.

And the minor changes overall to teh GT to become GXP should not, I repeat, should not add up to more than $5000 which would price the GXP at less than $38k, and realistically for what we get a $3000 upcharge should do it, getting the deal of the the century for $35745.

I am a huge fan of bad-ass performance sedans. The E39 M5 was at the top of the "if I won the lotto, what car would I buy right off the bat" category, even though it's no longer new (I love the styling).

This car is now at the top of the list. I actually like the styling a lot, and I love the LSx motors. And having been born and raised in Australia, the Aussie roots of this car just put it over the top. Good job, GM. That's saying a lot considering I'm a Ford guy.

For the people complaining about the 403HP, this is just typical GM underrating. GM has always done this with vehicles that use the same engine as the corvette. Just look at the original LS1 vehicles.

Chevy Z28 305HP
Chevy SS 325HP
Chevy Corvette 350HP

All three vehicles had the same exact drive train and all three dynoed the exact same. What does this all mean? The Pontiac GXP is severly underrated.

The general has a great way of making things look real good on paper then they kind of suck in execution like bad handling and a balky shifter. I wouldn't go and compare this to BMW yet. Wait, no. Because the VXR8 has an LS2, a 6.0L beast... and it produces, wait, 18 horsepower MORE? And about 3 lb-ft more torque?
