Very cool, but we get hosed in Canada on pricing, I'm assuming close to 40k for the JCW up here (I just paid $26k for an '05 Cooper S... and that was considered a fair price!)

By the way, forget about torquesteer with the Mini... they use equal length drive axles. Take that, VW!

Love my Cooper S--especially love that you can get a mechanical limited slip differential, unlike all other non-M BMWs. But the reference to Electronic Differential Lock control in the press release (which sounds an awful lot like the system in the 135) makes me wonder whether a mechanical differential is going the way of the dodo in the Mini line, as well. That would be sad.

The previous gen JCW was approx. $30K. Good luck finding a 135 for that. Besides, I'd actually say that the Mini is more practical.

The hood scoop lets air into the engine bay but there is nothing directly below the scoop.

The previous generation MINI didn't start cruising until it got to 90. The MINI One will hit 130 on the clock and is very stable at that speed, it just takes a long time to get there.

@Novaload: by my rough comparisons, the mini isn't *that* different in size and weight than a GTI, and no one seems to have trouble near the 100mph mark with the VWs. i bet you'd be just fine, but i guess i can't say for sure

i bet it's plenty of fun, but in my neck of the woods that's a toy car for sunny weekends. once you get to that point, any semblance of practicality goes out the window. i'd buy an MX-5 for less money, and if i just HAD to have more power, i'd supercharge it and probably end up still saving money over this model. and i'd get RWD and the option of a roof whenever i do or don't want it.

i guess i can see the appeal, but it's just not quite enough of what i want for that price.

whatever. i think i talk too much sometimes.
buy what you like.

JCW is sort of an AMG equivlent, except they dont actually build anything. Just up the performance a bit.

@UDMAN: i imagine if Mini had been sold to someone with the same mentality as the previous few owners, we would see the first New Mini redesign in about 32 years (the year before Ford gives America the Euro-Focus), but BMW seems to beileve in the whole 6-year model cycle thing.

the JCW versions are nice, but is there any chance we can get the diesel version? or maybe the rumored AWD version, and a WRC Mini to go with it?
