<P>You rang? 4 turbos? Check. 12 cylinders? Check. 5 valves/cylinder (60 valves!)? Check. All Wheel Drive? Check. 8200-8500 RPM redline? Check. Six speed? Check. 200+ mph top speed? Check.</P>
<P>This engine is totally insane. I don't know how it is classified (classic? historic donor chassis?) to be street legal as it certainly won't pass smog. For all you nuts that think this will fit into hatchbacks, just know that the small block Chevy V8 under the hood of my Trans Am barely fits in it.</P>
<P>They had to completely eliminate everything to make this engine fit in that Camaro. The only part of the forward chassis which remains are two braces bolted on at the firewall which form a loose cage to serve as an engine cradle and an abbreviated front suspension in the remaining space. There aren't any strut towers, bumpers, crumple zones, etc, and the monster motor still sticks half way through the hood!</P>
<P>Insanely awesome power for sure. I do love the American nature of this engine/sport. More, not for contest, not for commercialization, not for technical study, not for research--but for fun (and bragging rights, and sponsorship a distant third)!</P></BR> <p>eb110americana</p>]]></description>

There was an interesting note about the valves, and being tulipped I can attest to (even normal engines really needed it). I'm sure the engineers who designed the engines and I could have a very reasonable discussion about the level of technology involved in top fuel engines, and I imagine they'd be in agreement. <p>Aside from the fact that you're obviously missing the point, the answer to the question is actually probably less that you put out with whatever car you drive per year. Road and Track stated once that if you took a Callaway Vette, gave it a couple of miles to get up to 200 mph. and had a top fueler idling at the line, and gave it (the fuelie) a green as the Vette passed at 200, the dragster would catch and pass it within the allotted 1320 feet. That is beyond my personal comprehension. These guys must have to haul their balls around in wheelbarrows- how the hell else do they walk? An amazing sport that is absolutely at the cutting edge of internal combustion engine possibilities. It doesn't have to run on 110+ octane race gas either. Comparing the two is comparing apples and oranges. I appreciate both, but while this motor may run in a street-legal class, but street-legal doesn't mean streetable.</P>
<P>And just as a disclaimer, I love both the Veyron motor and I loved this beast when I first read about it on the PHR website.</P> <p>elwood</p>]]></description>

		    <description><![CDATA[<p>Wow...I could stare into that mess of tubes all day. While just slapping a quartet of turbos on a big-block would be awesome in it's own right, the engineering effort to get rid of all the gaskets is really impressive.</p>
<p>I don't like gaskets either, having had my own problems with them repeatedly.</p>
