Why... exactly are people talking about times on a video game, in comparison to real life cars ?

The Mines car that ran the 59 time, has a revised ECU, exhaust mods, and suspension mods on it.

Now as to why its coming to the US...you all will have to watch and see....

@Nayrlladnar: Forza 2 laptimes are always WAY quicker than real life laptimes, mostly due to the horribly innaccurate track modelling. Road America and Road Atlanta are particularly bad.

@ash78: Yeah. It's kind of silly when you're paying 40k for two seconds. Granted, the GT-R has a lot more fancy gizmos and such for the price, but when its twin-turbo'd v6 is only 2 seconds faster than a single-turbo'd 4cyl boxer, you're really in the realm of diminishing returns.

My tuned RX-8 does it in 51.416... admittedly, on race tires. I also have a tuned Ford GT that'll do it in 47.232, but that car is insane...

I should try the SLR on it, now that i've perfected my "use the air brake as a spoiler" technique.

They did. But like all "content protection schemes" it's doomed to failure. That sort of thing is like storing all your money in a burglar's house and then never checking in to see if everything is fine. Even if you have a big safe it's still only a matter of time...

Mine's is actually pretty minimalistic, for certain definitions of "minimalistic". The theory is that their customers will further modify things, so they don't want to go crazy with stuff that's going to be ripped out anyway. The Mine's R34 was pretty effing crazy already, so this thing should be truly epic.

@Neoscape: Nissan is allowing a few of the big auto tuners such as Mine's and others a way around the deadlocked system so they can create proper tuned versions. I think the system is in place simply to stop any yahoo with a spanner and a laptop messing around with the settings and creating dangerous cars.

The suspension looks like some fairly high-dollar Sachs coilovers, probably some fancy 3-way or 4-way adjustable units. Other than some megabucks spent on suspension, the car looks fairly stock, and I'm pretty sure they could squeeze a lot more time out of it if they wanted, with significantly more power and some race-compound tires.

So by that methodology, couldn't you tune an STI or Evo to do that, too? Just chip it to some unsustainable level of boost, claim the lap time, and voila.
