This was pretty rad. But has anyone else wondered why the Lotus Elise seems to be the platform that all the tuners/kit car manufacturers use?

The original Esprit S1 in The Spy Who Loved Me was a wet submersible. There were multiple shells used. Some were just close ups to show the transition (wheels folding, fins protruding, etc.) Some of the work was done using scale models, but the main underwater car scenes were shot in the Bahamas using a full scale submersible with 2 divers on board. It was a wet submersible, meaning they were wearing scuba gear, hence the bubbles coming up from the roof area.
So this Rinspeed is actually quite a bit like the original Bond car. And I like it a lot!

That looks so surreal. Those yellow dolphin things are cool too, forgot what they were called but Douglas Adams wrote a memorable article about them once.

I'd hate to imagine what would happen if you're pootling around underwater and the batteries run out, though. Does the Coast Guard honor AAA memberships?

ever heard of diesel-electric submarines? As long as the pressure in the compartment for the batteries, power electronics and electric motors exceeds water pressure, they're not going to get wet even if the seal is not hermetic. The sQuba is limited to a depth of 10m = 2 bar absolute.
