Good engine or not, this is one lardy looking SUV. Every time I see one, I just think.. Jenny Craig... Jenny Craig. That fat ass, odd tailgate shape.. no thanks. The dash gauges also have kind of a sloe-eyed dopey look. It's dandy for someone who thinks they need a lot of car.

We don't get as many diesels in the US because the US system of emissions regulation is built in a totally different way. That is to say that is organized in a way that will most benefit the auto manufacturers here as opposed to the environment. In order to bring a petrol vehicle over the companies have to do a ton of very expensive engineering and reprogramming to the vehicles. With diesels it a MUCH more expensive proposition. American car companies are going to spend whatever they have to to keep widespread foreign diesel cars out of the US because then they'd really be in trouble(out of business because no one would buy their crap). In Europe, diesels have a huge market share. It's unfair, stupid, and the fact that more diesels are coming out over here puts a big smile on my face.

I've seen that misinformation repeated I don't know how many times, so I took it as fact. The A6 was on the C5 platform in that era. Looked very similar and did have the same front suspension, 2.8 V6 engine, etc.

@TPSreports: I wish it was that cheap. That's what the base V6 cost, and it is absolutely deplorable. The interior felt incredibly cheap, the engine was rough, the transmission clunked, and i'm pretty sure that the suspension was made out of cat hair and marshmallows. It was saddening how expensive it was given how absolutely horrid it felt. Driving it into the garage felt unstable.

We had one on loan... Whereas climbing into my A3 feels like a purposeful cockpit, and an A8 feels like an upscale lounge, the Q7 feels like the waiting area at the DMV.

@ash78: I love the old Passat (i.e. the less expensive A6 with the longitudinal engine and 4-link front end, not the stretched Jetta) and almost bought a 1.8t version, but for Audi money I would want pure RWD with an engine that's mostly behind the front axle line.

Wow! That would be bad azz, too bad it will be the same price as a Cayenne. A VW Touareg 2 TDi starts at $68k so I don't see how this would be anything less than that! We have diesels in the US, you just have to buy a giant truck wrapped around it!

I like the wheels for the vehicle type. That's the appropriate size to defend against wheel curbage, winter gunk, and gravel. Tires are cheaper, and you don't come across as a wanna-be balla or pseudo tuner freak.
