Like the Truck not the name but they could change it just like microdot did with Longhorn. Those rims and tires Not a fan of can you even think what it cost to buy a replasement tire??? a 16' - 17" tire would do the job just as well cost would be less also. Would like to see a two door version as well. Wished it could be one inch wider. I personaly think the V-8 is a engine that has seen its day in the family car. The only ones that need the V-8 are those that cary heavy weight or tow heavy items such as bobcats or such. A V-6 with the same tech would boost its milage. Based on what i've found out with the numbers they do give and based on the engine in the other Hybrid trucks GM has I'm thinking around 20-25 mpg city I lay odds it be less in the neigboorhood of 18-20. I have a F150 and I dont need the V-8 and never needed it to tow anything and a half ton well need it ony once. The company that can get a hybrid on the market that hits 30 mpg city the size of a s-10 would own the market for years to come.

KnightEagle

Spoondizzle's got it right IMHO. I think there are lots of guys- suburban dads with kids to take to school and soccer practice, who needs a vehicle to drive to work every day and wants to be able to haul his mower or snowblower over to mom-in-law's place on the weekends that want, and will buy, a rig like this.

So ditch the Pimp My Ride hoops and put an engine in it that gets decent mileage and bring it on!

NatefromOgden

@LandOfMinos: Actually, there are two reasons people show concern regarding the use of all-caps.

1) All caps is difficult to read for a great many people. The difference in height between letters lends an awful lot to making out the word for lots of folks. This is called "shape reading," where a word is recognized not so much by its actual construction but just what it looks like as a general outline. Anything that helps you get your message across with the least difficulty makes it that much more likely to be read. And if you honestly didn't care if anyone read what you wrote, you wouldn't write it all, would you?

2) All caps is perceived as shouting. Are you worked up enough about this to be shouting?

I fully expect you to flame me now, in all caps. Please fight that urge.

Elhigh

Overall, I like the exterior styling (add a rear bumper and drop the 23" rims please). The interior is pretty wild and would need a total makeover to be anywhere near production ready.

My thanks to GM for taking a chance with the design - some folks hate it and others, like me, would run out and buy the thing if they built it.

I hope this thing makes it to market packing either a diesel or as a plug-in hybrid (or both but it would cost an arm and leg).

TBlueMax

"50-percent increase in combined fuel economy over comparable small pickup trucks"

Ok since there is nothing comparable (nothing this fugly anyway), I mean combined can include 3 hours at idle on 101 traffic, which a hybrid should do quite well at. GM is making no claims on what that mileage might be. Also suspiciously absent would be a price which even PickupTruck thinks will be over the mid $40's .

Unbling it - just let me have the Clubman so I don't have to buy a more fuel efficient version from Mahindra.

Littlebitsofpaper

Well, this is a nicely executed concept.

Tone the bling down (Gahhh! Those freakin' rims!), make it as efficient as they say they are going to, and I think a lot of folks will like this. All those poseurs who currently think they need a lifted 4x4 F-350 that never even see a gravel road will have a good excuse to buy a fashion statement that makes more sense.

Personally, I hate the lumpy bulges around the wheels, but I realize truck guys like to show off their 'muscles' that way, so I don't expect to see a prettier, smooth-sided version of this. (Until the 2011 el Camino?)

lascauxcaveman

I'm surprised at this "clean sheet' design from GM. Unit Body, RWD, 4 Doors, Midgate, Hybrid. They have taken all the buzzwords that you hear from GM all the time, and combined them. The only thing I want to know about this design is what are those black patches below the tail lights, and below the headlamps?

UDMan

You know how the "crossover" is a car made to look like an SUV? This is a car made to look like and be sold as a truck. That's why it's a GMC. It's nothing like an El Camino.

To be honest, I've never really been into the whole truck-car thing aside from the fact that it's probably the most hilarious thing you can do to a car. So don't accuse me of caring that this thing doesn't stay true to the truck-car spirit. I really don't.

I don't know what is more disappointing, the fact that this is the much anticipated "Caballero" or that Jalopnik gave GM a total pass on this. No, GM is getting a total buff book puff-piece.

Now, go ahead and jump on me for giving a shit.

teargas
