There was a JDM Sammy Pickup, but not many made it state side. It had the fold down bedsides and could really take a beating. The Ranger's dead and there are Indian and Chinese makers looking at this segment, so maybe 'Zuk can make a go of it before they get here.

Is this the first time Suzuki has put a badge on a pickup? I'm surprised that it has taken them this long. Seems like a natural fit - I associate the Suzuki name much more with the 4x4 class than the micro-car market they seem to be pursuing.

@Charles_Barrett: I agree, the design works much better than the NIssan, has a certain harmony to it. I would consider if if I were one to buy a pickup truck.

@UDMAN: If it's got the same VQ engine as the Frontier, that's a big selling point. Hell, I've been looking at the Frontier for a while as my next vehicle.

I'm not much of a fan of pickups, but there is something I find attractive about the detail work on this. The grill, the bumpers, the wheel arches/fender flares, etc. strike a certain harmony in my eyes.

@Mad_Science: ??I drove a Nissan truck when it (or a Hyundai Accent) was all I could afford. It was incredibly capable and reliable and I sold it after 5 years for just about what I paid for it initially. I would definitely want that cheaper. I buy cars for me, not for the people looking at me.

Small trucks used to be the alternative to economy cars. Now they're expensive fashion statements.

Well one thing that Suzuki will offer in the US that Nissan won't, their 7 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. Even if the costs are the same betwee nhe Nissan and the Suzuki, that would be a major advantage.

@David Thomas: Its a matter of cost. Nissan Doesn't want to have to stamp out new panels and I'm sure Zuk' don't want to pay for new tooling to stamp them out either. We may see something more radical when the Frontier redesign comes out in 2009/2010
