Yea...there are elements of design that are just a little too "arts and science" (AKA aztek) BUT.....
This could work. I would prefer to drive a (mostly) Michigan made automobile but was forced to go BMW's 330 coupe to get a 6-speed sports coupe that was comfortable, fast AND not spend 75K to do it. The biggest issue I see is that if built, GM will produce 400,000 of them annually and lose any "exclusivity" when every 20 year old hip-hop/gehtto crack dealer starts driving them. Think Chrysler 300! Paulbee.

Some guy's post suggested if the price is right he'd trade in his M3 for one of these. Are you for real- or are you actually a GM employee trying to woo other bloggers opinions? The M3 is a proven beast, while this is an unknown entity. Moreover, they'll provide power the American way- some big azz engine to compensate for lack of engineering.

Two Things Wrong w/ This Car:

1: Not entirely unique look- Has styling cues from Infiniti G Coupe.

2: Conforms to the "boxy" label bestowed on American mfg autos.

3: Acres of space above wheel arches. Immense, truck-like front grille.

I agree with the people saying that it's too tall. The gap between the front wheel arch and the hoodline needs to be cut in half (or more :D), as does the gap between the real wheel arch and the rear window. So basically, lower the whole stance of the car, while tilting the back end down so it's not so....colossal.

Apparently I am supposed to ooh and ahh right about now. Sorry, don't think I can oblige. That is what you get if you combine an Escatruck sized front with the side greenhouse of a Pontiac G5 and a rear end that makes more than a few people, myself included, think Aztek. Someone, please: Bring the beltline and the back end DOWN. Give it some rear overhang. Straighten the back window UP so you can see out the blasted thing (isn't visibility a part of safety?) Then maybe I'll think about it. Till then I'll keep my Fleetwood Brougham.

@ash78: My Corrado agrees, although my C230K coupe feels a bit of identity crisis as well.

So... let's see, how can we name this. It's a coupe, so add a "C". Short wheelbase? Maybe add an "S". Create a high-po version, that'll be the "V". Audi just made a high-performance diesel, Caddy will want to follow that. Add a "D" for that. Better yet, a turbodiesel, so make it a TD (can't have the "i", VW would have a fit).

Let's call it the CTS-CTDSV. Then we can add a "luxury" option, the CTS-CTDSLV...

I love alphanumeric naming. Alphabet soup that can take up the whole back end of the car.

@yellofury: funny story...so i drove up to BMW of Tampa Bay in my 95 Kia Sephia, complete with duct tape attached driver side mirror, and pronounced, ZE M3! ZE UBER AUTO JETZT! and test drove it blaring Heaven Shall Burn ( to see if this ipod adapter thingy really worked...) with the sales person curled up in the fetal position next to me as i flew down US 19, Americas Most Dangerous Road...i'm pretty sure at one point he was screaming at me to slow down or he'd lose his job, but it was hard to hear him over the german death metal... as soon as we returned back to the dealership, and he regained some color, i had two very dirty friends jump out of my work van with two brief cases full of money and paid for the car cash....i had just come in 3rd in a poker tourny held at the Seminole Hardrock and won a lil over $50,000...completly true story...

I like some American iron, but generally I'm a Euro-snob. However, I'll level with you guys; I love the new CTS-V. Especially since it was confirmed that it will go round corners and should have a decent quality interior.

This thing is horrendous though. The beltline is way too high, making the body look heavy and the back end is like a cross between a Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sports Coupé and some sort of exaggerated boat-tail Riviera. Ugh. Pass.

FYI, one of the cars in the press shots (of the coupe on the road) are an actualy production ready car (complete with little GM badge). The B-pillar is there, the ride height is higher than the "concept" and it has what looks like production brakes (calipers are mounted differently and not painted).

Thank you GM for making a coupe you should have made years ago...maybe its because I'm only 23, but I'm of the opinion that the cts was a sedan built to do a coupes job.

If the pricing is half reasonable, I will trade in my 03 M3 for one of these beauties...in fact the only reason I don't own a cts now is because they haven't offered a two door...so I guess this is proof someones reading my letters!

My neighbor is a Caddy dealer and bringing home demo rides all the time. Having seen the 4 door in the flesh, I can say I'd buy the 4 door over the equivalent BMW. If this looks half as good in the flesh as 4 door does, I think I can safely say the same about this new coupe, assuming it's lighter and the performance is at least close.

@reefer: I would agree about the rear proportions. It seems that the rear end is too 'fast', perhaps needing more definition instead of disappearing off the end of the trunklid. I'd have to see it in person though, I could see this being a car that looks better than in photos. Good job Cadillac! Looking forward to the V version.

Caddy doesn't need to duplicate the dubious sales distinction of the Mercedes C230 hatchback. I think they made this mistake before with the Seville and Eldorado in the late '80s/early '90s.

If you ask me (not that anyone ever did), they need to lengthen the tail to give it a proper trunk instead of the truncated, hatchback-like appearance shown here.

@yellofury: This is more like a G35 coupe competitor. Infiniti did away with the harsh angles and razor edges on the G37. No surprises here, they're a step behind, but leave it to GM to make even that look pretty sexy.

GM is on a roll and should be a model to follow for Cerebrus and Ford. To all the people who don't get this car you have to see that now America has a domestic competitor to the G37 coupe. I think its too early to start making comparisons to the Germans (Teutonic design seems to be going downhill however).
It looks kinda like the Corrado from the side as someone mentioned but is that really all that bad? I mean the VR6 Corrado was a very fun toy back in the day.
I just hope the magic at Gm trickles down to the rest if the lineup thats hurting like the XLR, which has the potential to shake off the Allante curse if only it was actually beautiful.

When I hear Cadillac Coupe, I think Eldorado. This is looks like an Infinity G35 knockoff.

Where are my tailfins. A proper Caddy Coupe needs tailfins.

I like how the roofline continues in a single unbroken arc all the way to the trunklid edge. But god help the owner who tries to parallel park, or even see out the back window in that.

Looks good. Definitely has G37 Coupe proportions in the rear but that is probably ok. Is it a pillarless coupe?

@ash78: Yea, I am with you on the space if nothing else sentiment...

That is why I like the STI over the EvoX...close to same experience & uses, but in the STI I can put the back seats down and move crap or let my dogs have some space.

CTS-V couple would be a dream though...

I just watched the live feed video on GM tv. The car looks amazing!!! The angle of this picture does not do it justice. (I'm certain more will be available shortly) Additionally, the C pillar treatment is really nice... I want one!

Interesting how the front fender changed. The complex metal where the vent blended into the a-pilar is gone.

There was a time when a coupe was a smaller, lighter, and faster machine than its sedan cousin (if it had one).

Seems like these days the sedans are plenty fast, and coupes aren't appreciably lighter. So what's the point?

Give me a fast wagon version. I want more space with my heft, not less.
