Good to know, but I'll believe it when actual numbers are in, preferably from owners.

Fact is; it was the renesis itself that kept me from buying an RX-8, and going with a cooper S.

Lousy fuel economy + Oil burning + buzzy = no sale.

if they make that car, and it has a back seat large enough for my 2 year-old son, I'm down. I know the whole back seat thing is a huge bummer, but that's life. I think that car is great looking, especially when compared with current offerings.

Looks pretty terrible to me. My guess is that it's going to be more like a cross between a Miata on steroids and a coupe version of the new Mazda 6. That thing looked more like a design student's project that only got a C+. Maybe it will be a Hot Wheels.

Yeah, rotaries don't have great fuel economy and burn oil. So what. Who cares when the engine screams to 11k rpm and weights less than 200lbs? They need to stop pussyfooting around with the fuel economy/burn oil whiners make a real no-compromise rotary that just does what rotaries do best - high revving turbo horsepower. I'll take the top end model with a 3 rotor and single variable geometry blower a la 997 Turbo. The real downfall of the old RX-7 wasn't the rotary anyway, but the needlessly complicated sequential twin turbo. Not very reliable, and partially defeats the purpose of a rotary by adding so much weight to the nose. Modern turbo tech solves these problems.

There are so many people (myself included) who would seriously consider buying an RX-8 if only it didn't get sucky gas mileage and burn oil. Replace the rotary with a high-strung V6 and keep the agility of the current car, and the replacement for the RX-8 will be a winner.

@CBR2200: I wish you'd offered your RX8 up as a mule to Grannie's or Hinson supercars so they they could build LSx to RX8 conversion kits. I love the RX8 but hate the fuel mileage.. and lack of torque.

Of course if you want a 3-rotor.. you are probably cringing at my suggestion to pull the wankel for a chevy V8. Sorry - no offense intended.

I want a three rotor RX-whatever. I owned an RX-8 for 18 months and eventually sold it because I couldn't take the lack of power anymore and the aftermarket had no acceptable answers. Other than that it was a great car.

@Turboner: Youtube does not letter-box videos that aren't in the 4:3 aspect ratio, like your typical TV uses.

The video editer has to export it with letter boxes, otherwise youtube stretches it to fit. Myspace was smart, and set it up to adjust for different aspect ratios though.

I think they should ditch those wheel arches, though. Everyone is doing them now, so why bother?

It does look pretty hot, but it looks more like a concept than something that would realistically be put into production.
