@BraappBraapp: If anything, a federation - not really government. However, you miss the point. Europe is what it is today as a result of common policies and open exchange of goods, services etc. Without this, I do not think the individual economies of Europe would be as strong, nor would european companies be able to compete as well as they currently do (and let's face it, many could do much better!).

To your earlier point, that "The EU is already got europe" - it is europe that already 'got' EU. Any country can withdraw at any time. Do they want to? No! Why? because it works for the national and regional economy.

Speaking of taxes, ever seen that BBC miniseries "Clarkson Meets the Neighbors". The episode where he goes to Spain. He talks about the taxes that the UK puts in, spain gets the exact amount out. "I'm not paying tolls on a road I already paid for"
