So what, it's a Mustang. Mustangs are iconic, whether you think they are junk or not. I personally like them and don't have an issue with them using one. Keep in mind that 2005 was when they changed it over to the newer style that Chip Foose was also part of the re-design. Why, you may ask? It was because of his design elements that he did for "Eleanor" in "Gone in 60 Seconds". That car sparked a lot of demand for the look. The producers also probably wanted to go with "american muscle" to try to promote the American car companies and spark the economy some that way, since the major sales in the US have been imports.

As for the Bumblebee is a bug not a Camaro debate- I guess nobody here read up anything prior to the release of "Transformers" though even the comment was made that "Barricade would slap KITT around and call it a sissy". Due to the classic nature of the cartoon, the production team of Transformers approached VW to ask permission to use the Beetle, so that it could keep true-to-form. VW turned them down offering the rationale that they are stopping production of the Beetle, therefore they don't want to promote another generation of sales. Chevy stepped in offering up the Camaro Concept Car which is supposed to go into production for the 2009 model year.

I hope this clarifies some of the foolishness from before.

The original Dukes Of Hazzard show faced the same problem and ended up re-using old stunt footage in the later episodes. It wasn't a coincidence that all those jumps over the river looked the same ;-) So they have to use a current car, and they can easily get a good supply of these (even if most of them are base models with a body kit on them and not actually GT500's).

The car from the Transformers movie was a Saleen, not a Shelby. I am sure this is not the finished product. I am sure they will mod the interior and make it pitch black with black out rims at least. I have a GT500 Convertible and have sent my car to Carol to be modded with this package. The car will have over 700HP when it comes back so these cars will fly.

I am skeptical about how this will come over to people, but I guess we will see if they can pull it off. I really doubt it and the show will probably last one season......lol. Already off to a bad start and the comments on here aren't looking good.

That being said, unless you have a Nielsen box (odds are you don't) you're not denying NBC anything by torrenting the show. NBC is a free to air TV station, all the programming is advertisement supported. The show was paid for well before it hit your favorite torrent site, by advertisers.

KITT is supposed to be a futuristic vehicle that runs on hydrogen and can leap over buildings with a casual press of the Turbo Boost, not a big fat V8 gas-guzzler with a 50-year-old solid rear axle and a severe case of steroid-jaw.

Perhaps…if it WAS worse:

The beauty of KITT was that the car looked like a Firebird but lacked all the markings of the Pontiac. Looks like the new show is going to be nothing but a Ford advertisement. Kinda like the show Viper which was an advertisement for Chrysler.

Besides the fake looking red scanner light bar(why bother splitting it in half?), I highly doubt the Shelby Cobra will figure so prominently.

That aside, we will tune in for the 2 hour premiere, watch the new KITT in action (speed runs, gadgets a go, jumps a plenty), only the story line will suck. But we tune in for the next couple of episodes, see that the car sequences are basically the same (or have be re-used) and the story doesn't get any better, then we stop watching it, and it gets canceled in 8 to 10 weeks. I hate to say it, but all of these remakes suck.

As for the car: Yeah, every mullet-headed, egotistical, lame-but-doesnt-know-it type has to drive a GM, which is why Da Hoff fit so well with the original LOL

Heck, if they want to do it right:
1: get into the concept designs. Stay away from retro.
2: Come up with a decent script.
3: Be original.
4: Hire decent actors. At least someone who can act better than Da Hoff ever did.

And the only Mustang that would work as KITT would be in an alternate dimension where the Probe had taken over as the 'Stang. A Solstice would be far more suited to the part, to say nothing of the Corvette. Thinking outside the big three, I could see a Audi TT (hey, the Germans love the Hoff) or Nissan 350Z doing an alright job. But more importantly, what will fill in for the Members Only jacket?

Secondly, the original KITT wasn't painted black. It had black indestructable panels installed to replace the original body work. So how are they going to explain the racing stripes and non deep black color of this car. I am not buying it. This shouldn't be the car.

However, seeing as there is no TA to use, and an older one would be even less "futurey" I don't know what else would work.

I have no problem that its not a Pontiac. The make of the car was in no way integral to the (cheesy) plot of the show. I say keep it a domestic rwd(not really integral either, but nostalgic perhaps) and anything sporty could be a KITT of the future.

i think when i was a kid, and why i thought KITT was cool: it's because it looked all hi-tech and futuristic, with the body kit, and cool wheels, and the steering wheel. this mustang...that doesn't look futuristic. hell, they picked a car that has retro design cues. all wrong. and lose the stripes.
